Ban on polystyrene packaging in France
The French toy association FJP points out that Article 23 of the French law 2021-1104 prohibits the use of packaging made entirely or partially of styrene polymers/styrene copolymers that cannot be integrated into a recycling chain from January 1, 2025 without a transitional period.
Further information
Producers are advised to contact the French eco-organizations (Citeo or LEKO) in this regard. However, if a recycling system for packaging made of styrene polymers/styrene copolymers exists at national level, the packaging is not banned. Packaging made of the material known under the trade name "Styrofoam" is mainly affected. However, there are certainly alternative insulating materials in the packaging sector, e.g. three-dimensional paper cardboard boxes to protect the product, but also bubble wrap made of PE/PP.
