Banijay Studios France brings Désenchantées to France Télévisions

Banijay Entertainment announced the adaptation of Marie Vareille’s best-selling 2022 novel, Désenchantées, for France Télévisions. Produced by Banijay Studios France, the four-part drama is the creation of Claire Kanny and Solenn Le Priol, and will be directed by David Hourrègue.

The plot

Set in the French coastal town of Bouville-Sur-Mer, Désenchantées follows the mysterious disappearance of 15-year-old Sarah Leroy, a case that shocked the nation. Though a suspect was quickly arrested, unanswered questions and speculation still remained. Twenty years later, journalist Fanny returns to uncover the truth behind the tragedy that has haunted her for years. As she digs deeper into the case, memories start to unravel connecting Sarah’s fate to her own past, her sister Angélique, and a group known as “les Désenchantées” (the Disenchanted), girls who knew Sarah all too well.

High-quality dramas

Banijay Studios France continues to build its reputation with high-quality dramas for both French and international audiences. The company is behind global hit Marie Antoinette, which has sold to 149 territories with a highly-anticipated second series launching soon. Other successful titles include Versailles (Canal+), Mouche (Canal+) based on UK hit series Fleabag, and Germinal (France TV).
