Barbie honors Wilma Mankiller with a doll
Mattel is expanding its collection of Inspiring Women dolls with the latest doll dedicated to Wilma Mankiller. She was the first female leader of the Cherokee Nation and worked to empower indigenous communities, especially women and children, for which she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1998.
Picturing an iconic woman
Now she is the latest doll in the Barbie Inspiring Women range. Just like the iconic photo of Wilma, the doll wears a basket and a richly pigmented dress with stripes representing the four points of the compass.
Cooperation with friends and family
To develop the doll, Barbie worked with Mankiller's family and friends, as well as her estate and the Cherokee Nation.
