Catan Studios reveals game inspired by sustainability

Catan Studios is launching a new game on the market: CATAN - New Energies. A mixture of strategy, sustainability and social progress into the 21st century awaits players. The game challenges players to master a decisive turning point in the history of the island of Catan, which is set in the present day.

CATAN - New Energies combines the familiar game principle of classic CATAN with a contemporary variant and presents players with the agony of choice: to invest resources in clean, sustainable energy or to rely on cheaper but environmentally harmful fossil fuels.

"Gaming has an incredible power to reflect real-world challenges and inspire thoughtful conversations," says Benjamin Teuber, managing director at CATAN GmbH and co-designer of the game. He and his father, Klaus Teuber, completed the gameplay design of New Energies before the famed founder died earlier this year. 

"As we designed this game, my dad said, 'A game is an experience—not a lecture.' Therefore, we are not telling players how to act best; we're inviting them to learn and draw their own conclusions through play," he said.
