Disney wants to take over Hulu completely - for another 8.6 billion dollars

Disney already owns two thirds of the streaming service Hulu, and now the world's largest entertainment group is buying the rest. Chief executive Robert Iger wants to restructure Disney after heavy losses in streaming.Disney says it will have to pay at least 8.6 billion dollars to acquire the remaining stake in the video streaming service Hulu. The entertainment giant is buying the media group NBCUniversal's 33% stake. 

Hulu streams series from broadcaster chains in the USA, and the service also shows in-house productions such as "Only Murders in the Building". In Germany, its program is embedded in the Disney+ streaming service. Hulu was once owned one third each by Disney, Fox and NBCUniversal. However, Disney already held the majority since the takeover of the Fox business and NBCUniversal had the right to sell its share. The minimum valuation for the entire service was set at 27.5 billion dollars. Negotiations are now to clarify how much more NBCUniversal is entitled to. NBCUniversal is owned by cable giant Comcast. 

Disney CEO Robert Iger wants to reorganize the company after high losses in the streaming business. Among other things, he held out the prospect of separating from the shrinking traditional TV business with channels such as ABC.Disney could also look for a partner for its lucrative sports channel ESPN.
