Economic Experts: Economic and Political importance of the EU is declining

Economic experts in Europe are skeptical about the future development of the EU as a business location. Respondents also believe that the EU’s future political influence will decrease, according to the latest Economic Experts Survey (EES) conducted by the ifo Institute and the Institute for Swiss Economic Policy (IWP). Respondents in France, Germany, and the Czech Republic, in particular, are pessimistic about the development of the EU. Respondents outside Europe also believe that the EU is becoming less important. “In order to compete economically with China and the US, the new EU Commission should place a stronger focus on common foreign and economic policy,” says ifo researcher Philipp Heil.
