EU proposes ban on products made with forced labour

The EU Commission wants to ban products made with forced labour from the EU market. According to the proposal, third parties can initiate an investigation into a company's value chain if there is suspicion that forced labour is used there in the production of their products. The ILO estimates that 27.6 million people worldwide use forced labour. If a violation is found, there is an import ban or products already on the market must be removed from the market.

TIE is currently examining the proposal, but the Commission's draft, if implemented, means that European companies will have to intensively screen their supply chains. The ban is to be enforced by national authorities.
