Glüxkind Ella and Rosa: AI baby carriages with electric drive

At CES, the Canadian start-up Glüxkind Technologies is showcasing two baby carriages that are designed to make life easier for parents with an electric drive and AI. Thanks to the electric motor and battery, pushing the baby carriage is much easier, while an automatic brake prevents it from rolling away accidentally. With the help of various cameras and sensors, the pushchair can even optionally drive itself when out for a walk, without the need for a hand on the handle.

New level of assistance

Both the Rosa and Ella models come with a 500-watt motor, which provides assistance in a similar way to an e-bike. The level of assistance can be freely selected via the app, so that at the maximum level, a minimal amount of effort is enough to maneuver the vehicle and the child up an incline. The battery located in the lower part of the baby carriage should last between one week (Ella) and one and a half (Rosa), with 5 hours of use per day. The battery can be removed and replaced.

All-terrain with face recognition

The automatic braking system helps downhill so that the weight does not have to be held by the parent alone. The automatic parking brake is designed to prevent the stroller from rolling away as soon as you take your hands off the handle.

Rock-my-baby function

The rock-my-baby function also moves the baby carriage forwards and backwards all by itself to soothe the child and rock it to sleep. If that is not enough, there is also the option of playing white noise as a soothing sound. In the future, it will be possible to stream stories from the smartphone to the baby carriage.

Facial recognition

A camera in the handle with facial recognition will ensure that only authorized persons can set the pushchair in motion; alternatively, it can be unlocked using a smartphone. Localization via the associated app makes it easier to find the stroller, but also records the distance travelled and the like.

Object recognition and self-driving mode

The more expensive Glüxkind Ella model has been significantly upgraded. The manufacturer has installed five cameras and ultrasonic sensors. Thanks to object recognition, the baby carriage is able to react to obstacles and dangers such as approaching cars or dogs and brake on its own in good time.

The cameras also enable self-driving mode: as long as the user is following within arm's reach, the pushchair drives forwards on its own. However, this only works if the child is not in the pushchair.

The Rosa model will be available from July 2024 for 2400 US dollars, while the Ella model for 3800 dollars is due to be released in the second quarter. Whether and when the models will come to Europe is still unknown.
