HUI Sweden: THE BOARD GAME IS THE CHRISTMAS PRESENT OF 2023
The global turmoil and economic situation of recent years have made us long for the past. We are looking for each other, the small connections, and rediscovering the joy of losing ourselves for a while and switching off from the outside world. At the same time, new technologies are emerging that revitalize a classic Christmas gift. As events in the world divide us, this year's Christmas gift is something to rally around - the board game is the Christmas gift of 2023.
Christmas Gift of the Year
For the thirty-sixth year in a row, HUI names the Christmas Gift of the Year. Interest in board games has been on the rise recently. Popular culture phenomena such as Queens Gambit and Stranger Things have fueled interest in board games and role-playing games. In addition, games are increasingly being used as educational tools in teaching and research. The boom in board games continues unabated.
Board games- connecting generations
"Board games are a classic Christmas gift that is now being rediscovered by new generations. In a world characterized by war, violence and economic hardship, board games offer the opportunity to disconnect from the outside world for a while and enjoy the company of loved ones. "Board games represent safety, but also escapism and development," says Emma Hernell, CEO of HUI.
Developement of new technologies
Board games are no longer confined to the home environment. Many restaurants, bars, cafés, workplaces and co-working spaces offer the opportunity to take part in quizzes, guessing games or classic board games. The development of new technologies and gaming experiences has made games more exciting and interesting. Especially "phygital" games, which combine classic board and role-playing games with digital gaming experiences. Artificial intelligence is bringing innovation to the gaming industry and taking gaming to a new level.
