Lego pledges to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050
Lego Group has announced plans to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. In a press release, the company says it plans to significantly reduce its environmental impact in the coming decades by meeting targets set by the Science Based Target initiative.
Lego intends to reduce greenhouse gases by 37 percent by 2032. Plans to achieve the net-zero goal by 2050 will be documented over the next two years. To accomplish this feat, Lego pledges to spend more than $1.4 billion on sustainability-related activities. Among them are designing and constructing carbon-neutral buildings, increasing renewable energy capacity at sites, factoring carbon emissions into all business decisions and working with appropriate suppliers to reduce environmental impact.
"Children can expect us to do the right thing. Protecting the environment is one of their main concerns, and we receive hundreds of letters every year with great ideas from kids about how we can make a difference. They hold us accountable and we need to set ambitious goals and take meaningful and lasting action to protect their future," said Niels B. Christiansen, CEO of the Lego Group.
