Oscar Nominations Snubs: ‘Barbie’ Misses Nods For Greta Gerwig And Margot Robbie
The Academy announced nominations for the 96th Oscars Tuesday morning, and “Barbie” surprisingly missed nominations for Greta Gerwig in directing and Margot Robbie in the lead actress category, while “Oppenheimer” led as expected.
“Barbie” earned eight nominations—but Margot Robbie was surprisingly snubbed for Best Actress, despite earning prior nominations from the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
America Ferrera was recognized in the supporting actress category, a nomination few pundits predicted after she missed out on nominations from the Golden Globes and SAG Awards. Greta Gerwig also missed out on a Best Director nomination for “Barbie".
This is causing a lot of resentment among fans. "America and Ryan absolutely deserve their nominations, but to not nominate Margot when she is literally Barbie is insane," writes one person on X. And another fan writes: "I refuse to believe I live in a world where Margot Robbie isn't nominated for an Oscar for Barbie."
