China leads in mobile game spending and downloads in 2023
China leads in game spending with $37.6 billion, ahead of the USA ($24 billion) and Japan ($12.78 billion). The highest number of downloads was also made in China (29.32 billion US dollars), despite restrictions imposed by the government in the country. This is according to the latest report from data.ai.
Overall, game spending is declining
Overall, game spending in 2023 recorded a slight decrease of 2% compared to the previous year at $107.31 billion. This means that the negative trend from 2021 continues.
Spending more time in apps
What has increased, however, is the time consumers spend in apps. Consumers in mobile-first markets spend more than 5 hours a day on mobile devices, a new high. Markets affected by this include Thailand, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Brazil. In Indonesia, users exceeded 6 hours per day.
