tonies: Outstanding sales growth of 46% in Q3

tonies SE ("tonies") announced its results for the third quarter and first nine months of 2023, ending September 30, 2023. tonies continued its very strong sales growth with an increase of 46 percent in the third quarter and 39 percent in the first nine months of 2023. tonies confirmed its guidance for the full year 2023.

Sales development in the US market

Group sales increased by +46.5% to EUR 78.8 million in the third quarter (Q3 2022: EUR 53.8 million). In the first nine months of 2023, sales grew by +38.9% year-on-year to EUR 191.9 million (9M 2022: EUR 138.2 million). 

Very strong growth was recorded in all regions in the third quarter, with the US market once again achieving the greatest growth. Sales in the USA reached 26.3 million euros, which corresponds to growth of +109.1 percent compared to the same quarter last year. In the US, Tonieboxes and Tonies are now also available in 1,600 Walmart stores and a further 700 Target stores, bringing the total number of Target stores to 1,800. This underlines the continued success at retail and shows that tonies is entering the crucial fourth quarter with a significantly broader retail base.In the first nine months of 2023, sales in the US more than doubled with growth of +139.7 percent to €60.1 million, supported by all sales channels. In addition, the first brand campaign in the USA "Discover Imagination" was announced, which will be broadcast nationwide and involves partners such as Disney (Frozen), National Geographic (Dino), Marvel (Spidey), Paramount (Paw Patrol) and Hasbro (Peppa Pig).

Sales development in the DACH region

The profitable DACH region recorded sales growth of +21.7% to EUR 41.9 million and recovered significantly compared to the same quarter of the previous year, in which sales were impacted by lower customer frequency in the retail sector as a result of weaker consumer sentiment.Growth was driven by all sales channels and strong product launches such as Paw Patrol and Disney's Encanto.In the first nine months, the DACH region recorded double-digit growth of +10.4% year-on-year to EUR 108.1 million.

Other

In the rest of the world, revenue grew by +55.9% to EUR 10.6 million in the third quarter, driven by the positive development in France and the UK. In the first nine months of 2023, sales increased by +55.6 percent to 23.7 million euros. tonies expanded its countries in Europe that are supplied via the European webshop to include the Nordic countries of Denmark, Sweden and Finland, bringing the total number of countries supplied to 17.
